Happy Break Everyone. I Love to Sew Club

I have now had my sewing machine for a while but I don't really know a whole lot about sewing. I can do embroidery on my machine just fine but sometimes I find just plain old sewing a little bit difficult. So I decided that it was high time that I attend some of the classes at my local sewing center.

Then I realized that the majority of their classes are offered in the middle of the day. Bummer! I work and go to school when most of these classes are offered. But wait! I see one that is during the evening! Yay! So I decided to give it a shot and see what going to a class is like.

When I walked in everyone was super friendly and nice and the class was great. It was about tips and tricks for sewing. The lady did a PowerPoint presentation and I learned a lot of things. Now I also have a lot of new things on my wish list.

So all in all it was a really great experience and I plan on going again next month!

Here is what the center looks like during the Christmas season. (I couldn't find a current picture online, but next time I will take one. ;)  )

A Wainy Day

I am so excited for Spring! For it to finally be warm again.

This morning when I woke up though, it was raining!!! Ugh!

I don't know about you but I don't want to do much when it is raining outside. All I want to do is take a long nap, then have some hot coco and read a great book. But alas! I can't since I still have school today.

I need to go to class because I need to work on my book! Which is almost complete! Yay! I will definaity show a picture when it is done!

What is your weather like today?

I have opened up the comments to anyone. I didn't realized that blogger locked it down to only people who have blogs. So sorry about that and I am hoping that more of you will comment on the blogs. I do read each and every comment. I also think that it's great when people do leave comments because it helps me with future posts. Thanks!

I realized that I'm outdated by TWINKIES!!

I watching the iron giant the other day and I realized something! I can now date myself. How sad is that? During the movie the little boy tells his mom that she doesn't have to worry about him eating as he flips open the bread holder on the counter to reveal some Twinkies. I laughed then I was like "well, they're obsolete now". My dad laughed at me and said it was sad that a movie was dated by Twinkies. I guess it would be strange but true.

I find it kind of strange that they decided to close the company about the time that the world was supposed to end. Strange. But of course this little picture sums it up pretty well to.

My Newest Love: Biscoff Spread

All I can say is that this spread is AMAZING!!!! It is so delicious! I have tried Nutella because I'm not a big fan of peanut butter but I wasn't that impressed with it. This last weekend my mom brought some of this deliciousness home. She told me that it was the latest spread and that we should try it. Folks, I wasn't expecting it to be this great and I was a little hesitant at first but mmmm....mmmm....good.

My sister and I agree that is is like peanut buttered Graham crackers. I love Graham crackers so I think that this spread is amazing. In fact, I find my self just getting a spoonful of it sometimes so I can have a taste.  My mom only got it a couple of days ago but it is half gone already.

The only downside to this spread is that it is a little spendy but if you can find it on clearance it shouldn't be a problem.

Expiration date? What expiration date, the jar will be finished long before.

Buhl Idaho Youth Ranch Shop

Since we were on our way to see Balanced Rock we stopped at the thrift store in Buhl which isn't very far from Balanced Rock. And I found some great deals and things.

A bag full of fabric for about $1 (I really like the pink one in the corner)

A little shoe type planter (so cute!)

A beautiful butter dish or spoon holder (shiny!)

A small board to hold papers (going to keep it for my future kitchen)

A Disney jar with Donald, Minnie and Mickey on it

As well as a larger jar with Mickey and Minnie on it (these are also for my future kitchen)

Hope you enjoyed the photos. What is your favorite thrift shop or vintage item? Leave a comment below!

Saturday Trip: Balanced Rock

So this morning, I woke up rather late...IT WAS SO GREAT TO SLEEP IN!!!! Of course, this is because it is Saturday. On every other day of the week I wake up between 7:30 and 8:00 A.M. And today was Saturday but I slept in until about 10. I hardly every sleep this late, but hey, it's Saturday. Breakfast was cinnamon buns and tea. And Dad asked us if we wanted to take a car ride to Balanced Rock.

I have seen pictures of Balanced Rock and heard stories about it but I haven't had the opportunity until now to go and actually see it. So my sisters and I were pretty excited. And of course, we said yes.

An interesting feature of Balanced Rock is that the base is only 3 feet by 17 inches. Crazy! It wasn't as big as I expected but now I can say that I've been there. The landscape there is quite amazing and when you travel a few more miles down the road you could hardly tell that there had even been a rocky surface, it was just as flat as could be and covered with wild grass and weeds.

Great Deal at Michael's

My mother needed something from Michael's and I had two 50% off coupons from Joann's (they all take competitor coupons). So we went in and started shopping. Mom got a wall hangy thing that looks like a birdcage and some other things. I got a couple of poster board for some green screen effects that we are going to do in my multimedia production class and then I asked her if we could look at the clearance section just because you never know what you'll find.

They must of been having a huge sale or new inventory because most of the home decor stuff was 40% or 50% off. I saw a lot of things that I wanted. Not that I needed them, mind you but they sure were cute. Then I saw two little owls as salt and pepper shakers. They were originally $6 but they were 50% off so I got them for $3! How awesome is that?

I don't normally shop at Michael's a lot, just from the fact that it is kind-of out of the way but I was glad that I went today.

Awwww...aren't they cute??? (They aren't as bright as that but I think the color is a little off from the camera flash.)

Tut tut it looks like....SNOW?

Yay! Spring is finally here and the weather outside has been nice and warm. For at least most of the day. Or so we all thought!

This morning, I had a meeting at work and so I got up early and was listening to my radio and humming along when the announcer came on. I only caught part of what he said but I definitely hear the part where he said "and it is snowing outside."

I thought to myself "No way! No way! It was just starting to get nice again. It CAN'T be snowing." Well folks, sure enough it was snowing as I drove to work this morning. I certainly hope that your day has been warmer than mine has been.

Can you believe it? I mean really, come on now! I was just starting to get used to the nice weather we are having. Boo-hoo!

Having Fun at Sunday School

The new theme for the Sunday School quarter is "God's Church". I think that this theme is okay but it isn't the greatest, as far a imagination goes. I suppose that it is a way to get kids to think about what is really going on a church but I guess I just prefer the ones like space, jungle or themes of the like.

So I usually have a hard time thinking up creative ideas for the quarter. The lessons repeat about every four years and so I have some props that are handy but I don't like the make things the same over and over again.

So I asked my mom for some inspiration. She is really creative and her theme this time was a cave. She had made some really awesome stalagtites (I think that's correct, sorry if I have the wrong one) out of a plant cage, paper, dirt and spray paint. She is awesome.

Well, she suggested that I use the stuffed animals that we have, lots of chairs, and a pulpit that my great-grandfather made. She also suggested that I bring my camera and tape the kids playing because "you might be surprised by what they percieve". Hmmmm...I thought to myself. Sounds pretty good. So I did.

Crafty napkin project!

The other day, I bought a bunch of napkins at the Youth Ranch (thrift store for those of you unlucky enough not to have one-I don't think that that is a lot of you though). I thought that they would be a nice cheap project since 4-8 napkins cost about a dollar and a half or so. And I also thought that they would be fairly easy to embroider on with my machine.

And they were, so here is a craft idea for all you crafty people out there.

First buy some napkins, I bought some that were bright green, off white, bright orange, and a few in pastel yellow.

Next put some stabilizer on the back of where you want to sew. I generally like my napkins and dish towels to have them angled into the corner. I also tend to use two layers of fuse and tear stabilizer on the napkins and other thin projects like them.

Next embroider your heart out!!

Side note-I discovered the other day that I have over 80 embroider patterns! Wow, when did I get so many????

Anyway, here are a few pictures to give you the idea.

Here is a picture of the stabilizer

So now I have a set of apples, elephants, and a chef type guy.
