Merry Christmas Series (Part 4)

Welcome to our Christmas play! This is my big surprise! We were low on people to do a play with so my sisters and I decided to do one with puppets. Here are a few photos to enjoy and this is the last of the Christmas series for this year.'

This is all of us singing at the end. The animals on the top part are our "sheep" we used all of the stuffed animals and just added sheep ears. Emily is in the back playing Gabriel and Sherman The Bible Horse, I am on the left with the purple puppet who played the Inn Keeper-Shepherd-and-Angel and holding the baby Jesus sign, and Grace is on the right with the green puppet who played an Angel and Shepherd and the red puppet who was Joseph.
This is Gabriel (played by Emily) and Mary (played by Grace) when the angel tells her that she is going to have a son. We had issues with Mary's headscarf staying in the right spot.

This is a Shepherd being played by Emily.

This is a Shepherd being played by grace.

And this is the Narrator being played by me.

All in all we had a lot of fun, it was a lot of work but the finished play went very nicely. I wish you all could have been there with us.

Happy Holidays!

Merry Christmas Series (Part 3)

Okay folks! I am celebrating again! This is almost the end of this series. The next (and last) one is going to be about our Christmas play. But I am not going to tell you anything more than that because it is going to be a surprise! So I guess you will just have to stick around and find out what the deal is!

Any who, today we celebrated our last Christmas (not that anyone is dying, I just mean my last Christmas of the year) with my dad's side of the family.  We had a good time. I went there straight from work so right now I am tired because it is a little later than I am usually up. We ate dinner, which was really good. Then we opened a few gifts and then ate desert and played a few games. I wanted to highlight a few of the gifts that they gave me.

This is a sweater from CJBanks that I have wanted for a long time. I had told my grandma about it but I told her that I didn't buy it because I have a lot of sweaters and I had just bought the mustard yellow jean jacket that they had too. So I was really happy when I got this one! I really like mustard yellow.

So I am sure that at this point this device is almost obsolete. It is a CD player. I wanted one because sometimes it is a pain to put the CDs from the library on to my computer then in my iPad. This way I can just pop in the disk and off I go!

Yay! I got a gift card to the sewing center! I can't wait to go! Also, right now they are having a big end of the year sale so now is a great time to buy! I wonder what I'm going to get!

Well, that is the end of the Christmas presents for the year. There is going to be one last Christmas post, so stay tuned. I am kinda glad that we are almost done with Christmas but my birthday is next week so the celebrations aren't slowing down anytime soon! TTFN

Merry Christmas Series (Part 2)

Merry Christmas again! I hope all of you enjoyed a nice day with your families. I certainly did. I wanted to highlight a few of the things that I received from my awesome family!

This is a vintage craft that my sister got for me. It is an owl that you make out of paper. I am going to save it for my house (someday) because I don't want to ruin it. Also, I don't have a lot of room in my room (ha-ha) so I am going to keep it nice. It was still in the shrink wrap! Awesome!

These are some glasses that I got in my stocking! Aren't they cute!?! I think that they look like the pink panther (girl style)!

This is the contents of my stocking. I got some really neat stuff. The green material on the right is a pillow case that my mother made for me.

I like poached eggs but I don't get to eat them very often since they take a while to cook. My mom got me a set of microwaveable egg poachers. I tried them out this morning. Unfortunately, I over did them so they ended up more like a hard boiled egg without the shell. Oh well, I can always try again tomorrow!

These are some decorative measuring spoons that my mom gave me. My sister also got a set but with a different design. I can't wait to use them in my (ahem, future) kitchen.
This is a really neat gift. I love to wear hats and I had told my mom that I really really wanted a hat pin holder because I have several of them. So this is what I unwrapped this morning! Apparently my grandmother found it at an antique place. It is supposed to be a vase. (There is a watering hole in the back.) But Mom and I both thought that I could use it as a hat pin holder. Right now it is on my dresser. Love it! Thanks mom!

Merry Christmas Series (Part 1)

Happy Holidays everyone! I am now finally finished with the semester. I think I did pretty well on all of my finals. I hope that any of my readers that had to go through them as well did a good job too.

For my family we usually get two or three Christmas celebrations. This is because we celebrate with both my mother's and father's family. This year we get three because we celebrated with my mother's family this past weekend. Then on Christmas day we are going to be at my house and then towards the end of the week we get to celebrate with my other grandparents. Plus, if that isn't enough I also get to celebrate my birthday next week! Yay me!

So here is a little bit of my Christmas that I'm going to share with you!

This is one of my sisters. Emily got a huge sock monkey and she was pretty happy!

These are a couple of gingerbread people that I got to decorate. They were really yummy!

This is Grace reading to my new cousin Madisen (I'm sorry if I spelled her name wrong earlier. I thought that it was the standard "o-n".

This is Ms. Madisen wishing everybody was as cute as her!

Madison wishing you a Merry Christmas!

Maddie also got a monkey!

She is also very happy with her monkey!

Grace wishing you a Merry Christmas!

Pepper, our dog, also wishing you a Merry Christmas!

Anyway, that is a lot of good Christmas wishing for you all! More Christmas fun to come!

Advent Calendars

Happy holidays everybody! I hope you are staying warm as Christmas is fast approaching!

Every year my grand parents buy me one of those chocolate Advent calendars. I always think that they are so much fun. Usually I miss a day here and there but they are fun to eat!

If you haven't already started on your advent calendar or if you just wanted some ideas for next year I am going to post a few links below of some interesting ones that I found online:

Focus on the Family Advent Calendar

Adventures in Odyssey Calendar DOWNLOAD form

Remember that you can always find some free ones if you Google search but the most important part is to have fun and to bond with your family.

Book Review: Alligent

So I have been waiting for this particular book for quite a while as I had read the first two books of the series. I really loved the first two as they were adrenaline pulsing and a very fast read. It is a dystopian novel where the people have divided into certain parts of society and have desired to be only one thing. I found the concept well conceived but I was sorely disappointed by the third novel.

I was disenchanted with this book for a couple of reasons. First, the book doesn't really get the characters anywhere new, and secondly I hated the way it ended. Spoiler alert: but what is with authors pushing their characters off of cliffs? Hunger games ended up in a very similar circumstance as have many other books I've read. If you can't bring your character to a good conclusion then don't make your books into a series. Please! It isn't fair for those of us who have stuck around to the third book in your series only to find that the main character goes crazy, rides off into the sunset, suddenly decides that they can kill their kidnapper, or dies. Really! I know it may be hard but I am sure you can find a better solution than above to end your book. I would have more respect for you as a writer if you can wrap up your series into a decent conclusion. Thank you!

Crafty Time! Chairs

Today I wanted to share one of my projects with everybody. I was out walking our dog the other day. And I noticed a couple of red chairs. These types of chairs were those that are lawn chairs for children. I was praying for some new plastic chairs for my Sunday school class and I was really happy to find these. The looked a little worse for the wear but nothing that a little soap and paint couldn't fix.

Here are the before photos

Then we washed them

After they were washed we let them dry, then we spray painted. This is my sister helping me paint.

And the finished project, all it took was a little time and now I have brand-new looking chairs for my Sunday school classroom!

Things you shoud know-Disney Movie Rewards

Hello everybody, we are finally having our first bit of snow here. Yay...I think. I like snow because it is pretty but I don't really like to drive in it.

Anyway, today I wanted to let you know about the Disney Movie Rewards! It is a program where you enter the codes that you find in your DVD case when you get a new movie from Disney. Or, if you're like me you watch for free codes on Hey, It's Free!, the newsletter Disney sends out every month or on their Pinterest Page.

Today, I ordered a really cute Donald figurine. They also have a bunch of neat free stuff too. Check  it out!

Thanksgiving

So I hope that all of you had a lovely Thanksgiving. I hope you stuffed yourselves and had lots of family time. I got to see my mother's side of the family yesterday. But it seemed like everybody was very tired. So I hope that you all had a nice restful day.

I do think America is kind-of funny in that we celebrate thankfulness and then the day afterwards have the biggest shopping day of the year. Oh well. Anyway, have a good day whether or not you are shopping, spending the day at home, or working.

14 Days of Things That I'm Thankful For! Today (Post #14)

Ha-ha, fooled you! You thought that I was going to post on Saturday. Hahahaha.

Okay, so I actually forgot. I am sorry! I know that you were all excited and were hoping it would be awesome. Well....I hope that today will make up for it.

Again, sorry, I had to work and then Sunday was busy and as I walked into class today I remembered that I need to post! So, sorry I dropped the ball.

Anyway, today I would like to say that I am thankful for today! I am thankful that tomorrow is in the past, today is a new day and tomorrow looks hopeful. I am thankful that I woke up this morning.

So this is the end of the of the 14 days of Thankfulness. I hope you enjoyed it!

14 Days of Things that I'm Thanful For! Thanksgiving (Post #12)

Can you believe that Thanksgiving is only a week away? I am so thankful for days that I can get together with my extended family. I love the times that we can get together and just talk. I think that is the most important part of any holiday isn't what you're doing but who you are celebrating with.

So next week when you celebrate Thanksgiving give thanks for the time that you get to spend with your family.

14 Days of Things that I'm Thankful For! (Post #11)

I am so thankful for vintage item! If you have been reading this blog for any amount of time you understand how crazy I am about vintage things. I have said several times that I wish I was born in the 1930s, then that way I could be a teen in the '40s and be twenty during the '50s. I think that that would be so completely awesome! I love love love love love love, well you get the picture, vintage stuff.

What kind of stuff do you like?

14 Days of Things That I'm Thankful For! My health (Post #10)

Today I am thankful for my health. Right now I am currently healthy minus a headache here and there. Overall I haven't had an serious problems. Thank you Jesus! I pray that all of you are well and you read this and I hope that we all continue to stay well as we go through this holiday season. I hope that you count your health as one of your blessings everyday.

14 Days of Things That I'm Thankful For! Library (Post # 9)

Today I would like to say thanks to my library! I think it is amazing how much information and "free" stuff you can get there. I am also surprised at how many people don't use their services. Our local library here has free books, magazines, videos, newspaper, Wi-Fi, internet access and computers, audio books, playaways, and even free music and music CDs. Wow! It is a valuable resource if you use it and don't accrue fines. Check out your local library!

14 Days of Things that I'm Thankful For! Warm Weather (Post #8)

Today I would like to say how I am thankful for nice and warm weather.  I am not a cold weather type person so I don't really like rain, sleet, wind or anything that is cold. I like snow, but I like it better inside with a hot mug of apple cider than I do being out in it.

As winter rolls around I wish more and more for warm weather but I know that there are certain seasons for a reason. One good thing about the cold is that all the bugs die. Yay! No more pesky flies. What's your favorite type of weather?

14 Days of Things that I'm Thankful For! Old People (Post #7)

Today I would like to say that I am thankful for old people. Now, I know that saying that might sound weird but I really am thankful for them. I am so glad that I don't have to figure out everything on my own. I think that people really should have more respect for the older generation. I know they aren't the fastest or the greatest with new technology but they have lived through some pretty tough situations.

I don't think that a lot of people my age understand just what kind of life experience some of the 80 and 90-year-old have. They have seen WWII and the Vietnam War, they sacrificed for their country, they scrimped by during the Great Depression to make ends meet, they worked hard and looked hopefully towards the future. They encouraged their children to get an education so that America could continue to be the greatest nation on earth. They had a backbone and stood up for what they believed in.

So I just want to remind us to not take Great-Grandma for granted and just to tell her that you appreciate her or to take an hour or two and play a quick game of dominos or bridge with her. Or simply ask her what it was like when she was a child, have her pass down some stories that you can tell to your great-grand children someday. Do this so that our past isn't lost. Help the future to go forward by looking back every now and then.

14 Days of Things that I am Thankful For! Books (Post #6)

I would like to mention how thankful I am for books. I have had so many adventures and learned so very much from books. I have a huge list of favorite books and a few that I have read more than once. I am very thankful that I can read and that I can make something like this blog where I can spread a little bit of happiness and knowledge.

Some of my favorite titles include:
  • A Year Down Yonder (Series) by Richard Peck
  • Divergent (Series) by Veronica Roth
  • A Coal Miner's Bride: The Diary of Anetka Kaminska, Lattimer, Pennsylvania, 1896 by
    • Wow! I just realized that I like a lot of series type books
  • The Scarlett Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne
  • The Help by Kathryn Stockett
  • The Cross and the Switchblade by David Wilkerson
  • And so many others.
What's your all time favorite book?

14 Days of Things I'm Thankful For! Food (Post #5)

Today I would like to say that I am thankful for the blessings of always having enough to eat. I know there are several people in this world who don't get enough to eat and go to bed hungry but I am thankful that Jesus provides for my needs.

Philippians 4:19 says "My God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus". I think that this is a verse that we really need to take to heart today. So remember to be thankful for everything. Even things that may seem inconsequential to you, like food.
