SCHOOL HOMEWORK-GOOD & BAD SITES

The good, the bad, and (usually if they're bad) the ugly!

So this weekends homework is showing what I consider good and bad websites, and why I do or do not like them. And explain.....

So to start off...This is an example of a bad site. A really bad site.

If you have never seen this site before this is www.csi.edu. If you have never had the pleasure of being on this site, generously thank your computer and maybe even buy a new mouse pad for it, or a bigger USB. ;) Just kidding!

But seriously though! This Site is horrid!! It is so hard to find what you are looking for. SO hard, and the search engine is just as bad! Bad, bad, bad, bad!!!!!!!
I don't like the plethora of colors is is almost confusing, there is black, white, yellow, red, and grey. It looks like they just chose random colors and went with them. I think the site would make a bigger impact if it was Gold and White, since that is the school colors and use different shades of them. It would be more consistent and would bring the website together more. I also am not a big fan of all the different sizes of boxes, nothing is aligned, period. All in all my general impression is ick!

On the flips side here is a good example...

So, I really enjoy the design of this website because everything is so well aligned. I also like the fact that even though there are a lot of boxes, they are aligned. I also like the fact that their logo really pops out from the page. I also like that their page colors are analogous. And you can immediately tell where the navigation is, where the links are, and where to sign in. Also they did a great job with making the bottom columns all float correctly. I really appreciate that because it is really extremely hard to do sometimes. ;)

Well, I hope everybody has a great weekend!

Best Fall Snack Ever!!

So my favorite snack for fall used to be candy corn. It was just great, and candy, and delicious. But yesterday I had something even more amazing than candy corn. And you'll never guess what it is!

Hershy Kisses Pumpkin Spice

In one word: AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!

It didn't sound very good at first but it tastes SO GOOD! It tastes just like pumpkin pie!  It is creamy and smooth and delicious.

Seriously! Try one!  Let me know if you love it as much as I do! Leave a comment below! :)

SCHOOL HOMEWORK-TRENDS

Trends verses Fads, and what the difference is.

So the homework for this weekend is to explain and find a few examples of web trends and web fads.

Trend- A Trend in culture can also mean any form of behavior that develops among a large population that last longer than ten years (thank you wiki!)

Fad- is any form of behavior that develops among a large population and is collectively followed with enthusiasm for some period, generally as a result of the behavior's being perceived as novel in some way. A fad is said to "catch on" when the number of people adopting it begins to increase rapidly. The behavior will normally fade quickly once the perception of novelty is gone. (again-thanks wiki!)

Me-So basically trends develop slowly and remain popular for a long time, whereas fads come and go wherever people's whims and fancies take them. So for example, a cell phone is a trend and hot pink as a fashion statement is a fad. Understand???

Here are a few of the recent trends- increasingly web access through mobile devices, and from that more and more designs are becoming liquid as to be user-friendly to mobile users. Another increasing trend is social networking. A few more include extending what people can do with the web, and increased actisim for freedom in the ability to use the internet.

A couple of fads of the internet are- lolcats, which if you don't know what this is you may be better off (at least in my opion-I have never found this very entertaining) so if you want to know more head to this website: http://www.lolcats.com/, but I'm not sure that you can count that as a fad. (He-he) I think one of the fads of today is facebook, I think it will probably turn into a trend in the long run but it is so new it seems to be a fad right now.

Info for school homework blogs

So, I decided that since I am more inclined to publish more posts than required by my class I will title homework posts as "SCHOOL HOMEWORK TITLE-OF-POST-HERE" that way all of you readers won't get confused with what is a school post and what is a fun post. ;) Also, I decided to do it this way because I couldn't figure out have to have more than one page. (oh well...)

Happy Monday???

Good Afternoon Everyone!  Well, I don't know about you but I am not much of a morning person. Especially on Mondays!  This morning my alarm went off and I was thinking "is it morning already??" Good Grief! So the first thing I did this morning was make myself a cup of coffee.

Ahhh...got to love coffee. But now it is about 4 in the afternoon and I am thinking that another cup wouldn't hurt either. But I do have to tell you that now I'm at liberty to drink more than one cup because I was reading one of my magazines and it said that drinking four 6 oz. cups of coffee a day isn't unheathy! YAY!  So this means that now I feel better about having a second cup, and usually I don't have more than that. Before, though, I used to have one and one only but now on the days that I feel still like I need a little more "get up and go" I have a second cup.

So one to add to the list of likes if it isn't already on there: Coffee

To add to the list of dislikes: Chocolate Icecream

How about you? Do you have coffee? More than one (normal) cup a day? Or do you not like coffee? Leave your comments below! ;)

Text Fixed

Opps. Sorry about the text being so hard to read. I changed the color so it should be a little easier now. Let me know in the comments.

Saturday Fun

So if you happen to know me in person at all, you would know that I am a very busy person. I figgured that I am working 4 different jobs right now: school, library, football filming intership, and a graphic design job on the side. This being said, I usually don't have a whole lot of free time during the week, and very little on the weekends (if at all-especially if I am working at the library on Saturday). So I decided that I am going to do something fun this weekend.

I have a sewing/embroidery machine. And I am going to applique some really cute patterns onto some pillow cases and clothes. I am going to cook a few things. I might even get to do some thrift shopping (which I really really enjoy).  One of the reasons that I really really enjoy thrift shopping is the thrill of the chase. You never know what kind of treasures you're going to find at a used store. I have found some of the coolest things at some of these places.

Well, I hope some of you have something fun for the weekend. Post below something you are doing or wish you could be doing this weekend. (Keep it clean please ;)  ). If I do get to do something fun I will try and post a picture later.

Ttyl, Have a great weekend everyone!!

Good Morning Mr. Thursday

Good Morning everyone!  Today is Thursday, and I need to think up a mock-logo for one of my assignments.  Hmmmm...........I think I need some more tea to get the brain juices flowing. I already had a cup of Earl Grey (which I consider my creative cup of tea). It is just a dry tasting tea. Makes me feel like my brain is on a clean slate and ever so creative! Well...got to get thinking!

Introducing Me

Hello World! This is Corissa here! How is everyone??? So...this blog thing is for one of my classes but if it turns out that I like it, I may just continue it after class ends. ;). So in this blog I am supposed to introduce myself. So here it goes!

I am a student at CSI. I am currently working on getting my Associates Degree in Graphic Design. I think that it is awesome. Except for the required classes that have nothing to do with my degree. (Ugh!) But they say that everybody has to take them so, oh well.

Here is a list of things I like:

Cookies
Playing Drums
Hats (especially ones that are vintage)
Vintage things
Auctions
Ebay ('cause it's like all auction all the time) (sidenote: that is probably not good for my wallet!)
Playing card games
Playing board games (like Monopoly, Risk, ect.)
Working on graphic design stuff
Sewing
Embriodering

Here is a list of things I don't like:

People who drive 20 miles per hour on the 35 mph zone
Notebooks that are almost used up, but you can't think of anything to put on the last few pages

Favorite Color: Right now-orange

One word to describe my life at this moment: Busy!

Gibbidy gibbidy gib folks, that all for now!
