Thanksgiving

So I hope that all of you had a lovely Thanksgiving. I hope you stuffed yourselves and had lots of family time. I got to see my mother's side of the family yesterday. But it seemed like everybody was very tired. So I hope that you all had a nice restful day.

I do think America is kind-of funny in that we celebrate thankfulness and then the day afterwards have the biggest shopping day of the year. Oh well. Anyway, have a good day whether or not you are shopping, spending the day at home, or working.

Anyway, today I would like to say that I am thankful for today! I am thankful that tomorrow is in the past, today is a new day and tomorrow looks hopeful. I am thankful that I woke up this morning.

14 Days of Things that I'm Thanful For! Thanksgiving (Post #12)

Can you believe that Thanksgiving is only a week away? I am so thankful for days that I can get together with my extended family. I love the times that we can get together and just talk. I think that is the most important part of any holiday isn't what you're doing but who you are celebrating with.

So next week when you celebrate Thanksgiving give thanks for the time that you get to spend with your family.

14 Days of Things that I'm Thankful For! (Post #11)

I am so thankful for vintage item! If you have been reading this blog for any amount of time you understand how crazy I am about vintage things. I have said several times that I wish I was born in the 1930s, then that way I could be a teen in the '40s and be twenty during the '50s. I think that that would be so completely awesome! I love love love love love love, well you get the picture, vintage stuff.

What kind of stuff do you like?

14 Days of Things That I'm Thankful For! Library (Post # 9)

Today I would like to say thanks to my library! I think it is amazing how much information and "free" stuff you can get there. I am also surprised at how many people don't use their services. Our local library here has free books, magazines, videos, newspaper, Wi-Fi, internet access and computers, audio books, playaways, and even free music and music CDs. Wow! It is a valuable resource if you use it and don't accrue fines. Check out your local library!

14 Days of Things that I'm Thankful For! Warm Weather (Post #8)

Today I would like to say how I am thankful for nice and warm weather.  I am not a cold weather type person so I don't really like rain, sleet, wind or anything that is cold. I like snow, but I like it better inside with a hot mug of apple cider than I do being out in it.

As winter rolls around I wish more and more for warm weather but I know that there are certain seasons for a reason. One good thing about the cold is that all the bugs die. Yay! No more pesky flies. What's your favorite type of weather?

14 Days of Things that I'm Thankful For! Old People (Post #7)

Today I would like to say that I am thankful for old people. Now, I know that saying that might sound weird but I really am thankful for them. I am so glad that I don't have to figure out everything on my own. I think that people really should have more respect for the older generation. I know they aren't the fastest or the greatest with new technology but they have lived through some pretty tough situations.

I don't think that a lot of people my age understand just what kind of life experience some of the 80 and 90-year-old have. They have seen WWII and the Vietnam War, they sacrificed for their country, they scrimped by during the Great Depression to make ends meet, they worked hard and looked hopefully towards the future. They encouraged their children to get an education so that America could continue to be the greatest nation on earth. They had a backbone and stood up for what they believed in.

So I just want to remind us to not take Great-Grandma for granted and just to tell her that you appreciate her or to take an hour or two and play a quick game of dominos or bridge with her. Or simply ask her what it was like when she was a child, have her pass down some stories that you can tell to your great-grand children someday. Do this so that our past isn't lost. Help the future to go forward by looking back every now and then.

14 Days of Things that I am Thankful For! Books (Post #6)

I would like to mention how thankful I am for books. I have had so many adventures and learned so very much from books. I have a huge list of favorite books and a few that I have read more than once. I am very thankful that I can read and that I can make something like this blog where I can spread a little bit of happiness and knowledge.

Some of my favorite titles include:
  • A Year Down Yonder (Series) by Richard Peck
  • Divergent (Series) by Veronica Roth
  • A Coal Miner's Bride: The Diary of Anetka Kaminska, Lattimer, Pennsylvania, 1896 by
    • Wow! I just realized that I like a lot of series type books
  • The Scarlett Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne
  • The Help by Kathryn Stockett
  • The Cross and the Switchblade by David Wilkerson
  • And so many others.
What's your all time favorite book?

14 Days of Things I'm Thankful For! Food (Post #5)

Today I would like to say that I am thankful for the blessings of always having enough to eat. I know there are several people in this world who don't get enough to eat and go to bed hungry but I am thankful that Jesus provides for my needs.

Philippians 4:19 says "My God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus". I think that this is a verse that we really need to take to heart today. So remember to be thankful for everything. Even things that may seem inconsequential to you, like food.

14 Days of Things I'm Thankful For! Home (Post #4)

I am very thankful for my house. I am so very blessed to be living in America with a roof over my head. Now, I still live at home with my parents so I am really really thankful that I don't have to live by myself because I'm a people person and it's boring to be by yourself all the time.

I am thankful that I live in America because a lot of other people don't have all the things that we have. I am glad that America is not a war-torn country, or that we have famine, and that I can get up in the morning knowing that I am safe.

14 Days of Things that I am Thankful For! Friends (Post #3)

Today I am thankful for my friends. I have had a few good friends and today I just wanted to say thanks!

My two best friends are just awesome. Sometimes we take our friends for granted. We think that they should like us because we are cool or that we agree on the same things. Now we all know what true friendship is but how often do we express it ourselves? Here is my list for true friendship:

1) You don't have to "fix" them. In other words, you accept them for who they are and they do the same for you.

2) The silences aren't awkward. You can just be together.

3) You can share anything with them without being judged. They may not agree with your opinion but they can understand where you're at.

4)You don't keep score. You aren't trying to beat them. And you don't keep a money value on your friendship. For example, if you go out to eat and pick up the tab the other person doesn't feel like they need to "pay you back" dollar for dollar. They probably will just pick up the tab next time. (Note: if the other person is a "blood sucker" and never pays then you might want to reconsider this one.) ;)

5)You family thinks your friends are good for you. They aren't scared that your "friend" will leave you stranded in the middle of a desert without a way to get back. And your friend likes your family too.

6)You have open communication. You maintain the relationship.

Anyway, that is a little of what I think makes a good friend. So if you don't have one go out and find one. You'll be glad you did.

14 Days of Things that I am Thankful For Post #2

Today I would like to say how thankful I am for Jesus! He is my Savior and He has changed my life dramatically.

There really is no way to describe in words how amazing Jesus is or what he can do with anybody. He can take the lowest of the low and change them and make them into a great person. He can also take your worst situation and turn it around!

If you have never experienced His love, I deeply encourage you to give Him a try!

New Series! 14 Days of Things that I am Thankful For! Family (Post #1)

The first thing that I would like to say I'm thankful for is:

I am thankful for my family. We never get to say often enough how much we love our family. I just wanted to send a shout out to families to day and say how thankful I am for each and every person in my family. (Including Pepper, our dog. Jack, the cat, not quite as much. ;). )

They have helped me when I was down and loved me when I thought that no one else did. I appreciate them and I want them all to know just how much they mean to me.

So remember to take some time today and tell someone that you love them. Even if you have to call them. Don't send it in a text, it just doesn't mean as much as hearing it come out of your mouth. ;) Or make them a card and simply say "I love you!" It could make all the difference.

I am reminded of a story I read in one of those chicken soup for the soul books. It was a story about a girl who was getting ready to commit suicide. She had decided that she was going to swallow a whole bottle of pills and she was in the bathroom getting ready to commit the act when the phone rang. It was her mother wanting to know if she would like a new pair of flip-flops since she was at the store. The girl, of course, didn't really care but decided to tell her mom that no she didn't want a new pair since she didn't think that she would get the chance to wear them if she was going to commit suicide. As she was getting ready to end her conversation with her mom, her mom said one last thing. "Hey honey!" "Yeah?" "I love you." And suddenly the girl realized that, you know what, somebody really did love her and she decided that life was worth living after all.

So take some time to let others know that you appreciate them.

Vintage Alert

Hey! I just wanted to post about an awesome site that I discovered. It is called FreeVintagePosters.com. It is a neat site were you can download and print all the vintage posters you want.

They have categories like Animals, Food & Drink, and War (which includes a lot of WWII posters).

Anyway, I think that it is an awesome site and I personally wish that I could print almost all of them but I will let you be the judge.

Note: I did have a little trouble trying to get them to open but they are just fun to look at too!

Review: Jello-o No Bake Pumpkin Style Pie

Don't have time to make a pie? No worries! Simply mix it up and toss it in the fridge for an hour! And Delish!

This product is amazing! I like pumpkin pie but this was so easy to make and tasted so good. I think it might actually be better (yeah that's right, better) than the real thing!

Seriously try it! I am pretty sure that you will be as amazed as I was!

Man! I am hungry now!

The Great American Vacation Series (Post #6)

I think that lately I have been pretty "on top" of things as it were. I feel like I have gotten a lot done with this series lately. The holidays are quickly coming up so I am sure that life is going to be a little more hectic soon. But! Don't worry because there will be new posts!

On with the Yellow Stone Trip! (BTW-this is a picture heavy post so sorry if the pictures take a little to load) :)

This is one of the sneak peak pictures that I showed you last week. We are at one of the stops at Yellow Stone and there was so many (seriously a lot) people that we were having a hard time finding a parking space. My grandparents had already been there last summer so my grandpa said that we could get out and look around while he circled the parking lot to find a space.

When we got out my grandma noticed that the parking sign was a little loose. So we were goofing around and told her that it might be easier if we took the sign and just parked the car there. Ha-ha! So I had her hold the sign while I took a picture!

So this place that we stopped at had a river going by it and as you can see from the picture there was a run off coming from a lake at the top. You will have to look close at the picture to see the steam coming off but I thought that it was a neat picture.

This is a view of the same stream from the top

Here is where the lake turns into a stream

The lake at the top is called Excelsior Geyser Crater

Hello everyone! Here I am enjoying my vacation!

This is another little lake that was at the top as well.

I thought that this little lake (or large puddle) was interesting because it had all these rock kind of things in it. (See the next picture for a closer look)

Another angle of the rocky lake

So this is near the largest lake. I found it interesting because as the water cools it starts to be a place where things can live.

Here is a closer look. I think that it kind of looks like veins or like tree bark.

Again, it is so amazing that there could be this many colors in one spot.

My little sister, Emily, with a dragonfly on the brim of her hat!

My other sister, Grace, looking down on another lake and feeling the steam.

This lake was so hot that it was boiling.

Fabulous Finds Friday

Happy November 1st!

So my great-grandmother lives at a retirement home and every so often they take a "Mystery Ride" on the home bus and go somewhere different.

Personally, I think it sounds a little creepy but I guess if your over the age of 70 there isn't much chance of somebody wanting to kidnap you.

Anyway, sorry for the rabbit trail, that week she didn't get to go on the Mystery Ride and said that when some of her friends got back they were talking about a humming bird place in the South Hills of Idaho. Well, my grandpa researched the information and found this article on www.magicvalley.com that talks about this place. So we hopped in the car and took a ride to see what the excitement was all about.

So we found the place and there are places to sit and watch but you do have to be pretty quiet but you can stand almost right next to the feeder and take pictures.

This is definitely an activity that I would recommend for the whole family! Go check it out!
